Arrest in 22-year-old rape case

A cold case police team have arrested a man on suspicion of raping two women in Suffolk more than 19 years ago.

The 50-year-old man from Ipswich was arrested in the early hours and was taken to Ipswich Police Station to await questioning.

Police said the first rape, of a 41-year-old woman, took place in the Stoke Park area of Ipswich in September 1986.

The second rape, of a 17-year-old girl, happened in Gippeswyk Park, Ipswich, in January 1990, a spokeswoman said.

She said the cold case inquiries had been carried out by officers from the Norfolk/Suffolk Major Investigation Team.
