Mother found dead after 999 call

Mary Griffiths
The IPCC is investigating the circumstances surrounding the death

A fitness instructor found stabbed to death at her home in Suffolk had called police just before, it has emerged.

Mary Griffiths, a 38-year-old mother of three from Bury St Edmunds, died early on Wednesday.

A police spokeswoman said the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) would investigate the circumstances surrounding the death.

A 40-year-old Bury St Edmunds man arrested on suspicion of murder is being treated in hospital.

"Suffolk Constabulary can confirm that the victim did contact police prior to this incident," the police spokeswoman said.

"As such, this matter has been referred to the IPCC. They are conducting an investigation and we cannot comment any further."

The spokeswoman said she could not confirm exactly when Ms Griffiths contacted police.

The arrested man has non-life-threatening injuries and has yet to be questioned, police said.
