Prince praises club youth project

Prince Charles is presented with his Ipswich Town shirt

The Prince of Wales has praised Ipswich Town Football Club for its efforts in helping to change young people's lives.

The prince was shown the work being done at the club under its Prince's Trust self-development programme during a visit to the town.

The Coca-Cola Championship side runs a 12-week course aimed at boosting the confidence of young people by providing basic skills and help to find work.

Prince Charles praised the "marvellous" people working as part of the trust.

Ipswich Town chairman David Sheepshanks, who accompanied the prince during the visit, said: "It's the first time the Prince's Trust has set out to make a football club one of its delivery partners, where the courses are run by the club in partnership with the trust.

"We are proud to be the first. I'm sure other clubs will follow."

Club captain Richard Naylor presented Prince Charles with an Ipswich Town home shirt which had "HRH 1" printed on the back.
