Hospital's new cars cut emissions

Cars used by staff such as occupational therapists and dieticians to visit patients in Suffolk are being replaced with environmentally-friendly models.

Ipswich Hospital said it hoped to reduce carbon emissions by cars by 30% and to save £75,000 over four years.

Dave Mustoe, head of procurement, said: "The first cars have just arrived and everyone is pleased to be making a difference.

"As well as having lower emissions, the cars are also more fuel-economic."

Several departments in the hospital are using the cars.

They include pharmacy staff who visit care homes, community midwives and outreach nursing staff.

Mr Mustoe said: "Colleagues who have responded so far are looking at low emission vehicles and we are confident this will be a success story."
