Port's rail traffic sets a record

Felixstowe Port
Rail traffic is to increase at Felixstowe's container port

A Suffolk port specialising in dealing with railway container traffic handled a record amount of freight in one week at the end of September, it has said.

The Port of Felixstowe's rail division handled 9,111 containers in the week ending 28 September. The previous record was 8,984, in September 2007.

Managers said a rail terminal had been extended to accommodate 22-wagon trains, which made the record possible.

The said they were also looking forward to larger volumes of rail traffic.
