A council is calling on people to back its efforts to reduce drunken and anti-social behaviour in the street.
Waveney Council, in Suffolk, wants a Designated Public Place Order to cover the Kirkley and Harbour wards and part of Oulton Broad and Whitton wards.
This would make it an offence to continue to drink alcohol after being told to stop by a police officer.
A copy of the draft Order can be seen at the town hall in Lowestoft or viewed online on the council's website.
The consultation process continues until 6 October.
Councillor Mary Rudd said: "Like many other similar towns, Lowestoft has experienced problems with a small but significant minority of people that drink to excess.
"We intend to implement a Designated Public Place Order in these areas to ensure that residents and visitors to Lowestoft feel confident, safe and free to go out and enjoy the town, whatever the time of day."
Those who do not comply with the order could be fined £500.
