More patrols to combat car crime

Police are stepping up patrols in the Suffolk town of Haverhill after a spate of car crime.

Suffolk Police said between 1 January and 23 June 2008, there had been 111 thefts from motor vehicles in the town, with more than 200 vehicles damaged.

Insp Andy Smith said: "An operation is now ongoing in the town to help owners keep their vehicles more secure and less inviting for criminals."

Additional officers are patrolling areas with high numbers of thefts.
