Hospital apology over amputation

A hospital has apologised to a Suffolk woman who had her leg amputated due to complications with a routine operation.

Karen Flory, 37, is taking legal action over her treatment at Ipswich Hospital.

The Ipswich resident underwent surgery in February last year to have inflamed tissue removed from her right knee but surgeons had to amputate the leg later.

Blood circulation problems during her recovery were blamed for the decision to remove the leg above the knee in a second operation, her lawyers said.

An Ipswich Hospital spokeswoman said: "The trust has provided a full admission and apology regarding failings in Ms Flory's management leading to her amputation.

"Solicitors for Ms Flory and the trust are working together to resolve this matter at the earliest opportunity."
