Description of attacker released

Detectives investigating the rape of a woman forced into a 4x4 vehicle have released a description of her attacker.

The victim, 21, was in Tesco's car park in London Road, Brandon, on Saturday when a man asked for help with bags.

The man, described as in his 60s, 5ft 3in, with bushy sideburns, heavy facial hair and a ruddy complexion, threatened her then pushed her into the 4x4.

He then drove her to another location where he raped her, before returning her to Wimbledon Avenue, Brandon.

The attacker, who is of medium build with a pot belly, was wearing a red woolly hat, a red fleece, black tracksuit bottoms, trainers and glasses, police said. He was also described as dirty and smoked roll-up cigarettes.

'Terrifying ordeal'

His vehicle is described as a dirty, older style, dark grey 4x4 with front seats only. It also has a row of four blue spotlights on a bull bar at the front of the vehicle.

It is believed the vehicle was in Tesco's car park when the victim arrived to go shopping.

Det Ch Insp David Cutler, of Suffolk Police, said: "This was a frightening attack on a young woman who was simply being helpful to a man who appeared to be in need of assistance. Her ordeal must have been terrifying.

"A team of 20 officers is working on the case."

Suffolk Police are appealing for anyone with information, particularly those people who were in Tesco's car park who may have seen any suspicious activity between 1200 and 1500 BST on Saturday, to contact them.
