Work starts on expansion of port

Felixstowe Port
Capacity is to increase by 25% at Felixstowe's container port

Work on the expansion of a container port which promises up to 1,500 new jobs has started after contractors received formal go-ahead from planners.

The first phase of the project at the Port of Felixstowe will create an additional 730m (791 yards) of deep-water quay.

Suffolk Coastal District Council has given the go-ahead for demolition, site clearance and test piling.

The council said disruption to residents will be kept to a minimum.
