Probe into trampled woman's death

Cattle death
The Health and Safety Executive said deaths involving cattle were rare

Health and safety experts are investigating the death of a woman who died after being trampled by a herd of stampeding cattle in Suffolk.

The incident happened on Sunday on farmland at country house South Elmham Hall. The woman, in her 40s, has not yet been formally identified.

Hall owner John Sanderson was said to have gone to the woman's aid.

He said he was helping the investigation in any way he could and added he was "deeply saddened".

Working farm

Suffolk Police are also taking part in the investigation.

South Elmham Hall offers accommodation and operates as a farm with a restaurant and visitor centre but has been closed to business as investigations continued.

A website says the hall and farm is surrounded by 450 acres and that a herd of rare British white cattle and Simmental beef suckler herd graze the land.
