Horses to benefit from car rally

Horses are used for many arduous and unpleasant tasks

A woman has set off on a car rally to raise money to help suffering horses in developing countries.

Jenny Woodhead, from Bury St Edmunds, set off on Sunday for the Panama to Alaska Friendship Rally.

She will join 18 other classic cars on the trip which will take them through nine countries.

Money raised will go to Brooke which is a charity providing veterinary and welfare services for horses and donkeys in the developing world.

Difficult terrain

The 11,060-mile (17,800km) trip is expected to take 61 days.

Ms Woodhead said: "The rally is going to be a real adventure - a lot of the places we'll visit are off the beaten track, and much of the route is over difficult terrain, so it's also going to be a challenge.

"What makes our trip even more worthwhile is that we're able to raise funds for the Brooke."

John Trampleasure, from Brooke, said: "Jenny first saw the Brooke's work in action on a visit to the North West Frontier Province of Pakistan, following the devastating earthquake in 2005.

"Her personal experiences overseas have inspired her to raise even more funds for the Brooke."
