Teacher tells of rape allegations

A school teacher accused of raping a pupil will not face any charges after police said there was not enough evidence to bring a prosecution.

The 24-year-old man was arrested after the claim by a 16-year-old girl last July and he was suspended from the school in Woodbridge.

He said after the police investigation: "I felt physically sick that I could be accused of such a thing."

It is not yet known whether he will resume his teaching post.

The teacher said: "You have in your mind a mental picture of a rapist and people who assault people, and to think I was in the same category - it's soul destroying."

He said the arrest was a "massive shock".

"You go into shut down - your mind completely switches off and you try and think who is it, why is it, what's happened," he said.

"It's really difficult to describe unless you have been in that situation."
