The contents of the 15th Century house - Loudham Hall in Suffolk, have sold for about 2.1m.

The items belonged to Keith Skeel who had been collecting antiques and other objects from all over the world for the past 30 years.

The three-day sale of more than 2,000 lots by auctioneers Lyon and Turnbull finished on Sunday.

Among the items sold were a George III bookcase which fetched 32,000, and a large bronze lion went for 10,000.

Mr Skeel said: "We are only guardians of objects and I have had enormous pleasure over many years from these things and now it's someone else's turn to have the pleasure."
