Death crash motorbiker is jailed

A biker has been jailed for causing the death of a grandmother who was knocked down while out walking with her husband and two grandsons.

Christine Seymour, 58, was hit by Christopher Bainbridge, 35, in Ipswich, Suffolk, in August 2005.

Her husband Brian and grandson Kieron, six, were badly injured. A second grandson Ethan, two, was also hurt.

On Friday Bainbridge was jailed for three and a half years for causing death by dangerous driving.

Bainbridge, of Lincoln Close, Ipswich, who had denied causing death by dangerous driving, was also banned from driving for three years.

Husband lost his legs

Ipswich Crown Court heard he was late for a haircut and was seen racing, weaving in and out of traffic moments before running into the four as they crossed London Road.

Mrs Seymour's husband, Brian, lost both legs after the accident and was not well enough to be in court for Bainbridge's trial.

The couple's son, Shaun Seymour, said the family welcomed the sentence.

"I expected a year to two years but to get three and a half and a three-year ban - the Seymour family is very, very happy with the verdict," he said.
