Proposals for 700 at Chilton Wood have been backed
Plans for a huge new housing estate in the Suffolk countryside have been backed by planners.

Babergh District Council has officially approved proposals for 700 houses at a 100-acre site at Chilton Wood, near Sudbury, as part of its new Local Plan.

The plan aims to provide the framework for new housing, employment and environmental protection over the next 10 years across Babergh.

The Chilton Woods plan also includes proposals for community woodland.

The Local Plan also calls for 35% of all new development to be made up of affordable housing, including rented and shared ownership.

Councillor Nick Ridley, chairman of the council's strategy committee, said: "It is a good plan that balances new housing, including low-cost housing, new sites for jobs and environmental enhancements for the next 10 years."
