First multiplex in town to close
The first multiplex cinema in Ipswich has announced plans to close with the loss of 23 jobs after suffering competition from a larger rival.

The Odeon cinema on Major's Corner will show its last film next month.

The five-screen Odeon was the town's first multiplex when it opened about 14 years ago.

But audiences have declined since the opening of the rival UGC in Cardinal Park. Now the Odeon is to close next month after a review of its viability.

The news is a double blow for cinema-goers in Ipswich as the town's Film Theatre had just started showing movies there after one of its screens at the Corn Exchange was closed.
