Resort theatre faces uncertainty
Spa Pavilion Theatre in Felixstowe
Managers waiting to hear if the local council will renew their contract
A seaside resort theatre in need of repair is facing an uncertain future as managers renegotiate a contract at a time when audiences are falling.

The Spa Pavilion Theatre at Felixstowe needs a 500,000 refit but a number of recent shows have been cancelled because of poor ticket sales.

The Spa has been run by management firm ClearChannel for the past nine years.

Its contract is up in June 2006 and Suffolk Coastal Council is now looking at what to do with the theatre.

Local businesses and community groups have described it as a vital asset to Felixstowe despite currently operating at only 40% of its capacity.

In recent weeks three shows - including a visit by comedian Bobby Davro - have been cancelled due to lack of interest.

Councillors will this week discuss the future of the venue and whether a new company should be brought in to take over its running.
