A fighting fund has been set-up by people in Felixstowe as they start a campaign to save their hospital.
On Saturday, 500 local residents packed a meeting called after fears about the future of Felixstowe General Hospital.
Closure of the unit is one suggestion being considered by East Suffolk Primary Care Trust to save money.
Malcolm Minns, chair of Suffolk Coastal Patient Participation Group, said those at the meeting were very angry at the possibility of losing the hospital.
The group had collected £700 to start a campaign to prevent the closure happening.
Mr Minns said: "The hospital has been there for a very long time and plans have been announced to put in additional services.
"The Primary Care Trust announced improvement plans but there were no funds.
"Now we left anxious to prevent closure but still wanting the improved services. That's the basis of our campaign."
