Firm takes 'best bangers' award
Grant Powter
Grant Powter's family firm has made bangers for more than 120 years
A firm in Suffolk has been named the best sausage makers in the UK.

Voters taking part in the Meat and Poultry News industry awards this week selected Powters Celebrated Newmarket Sausages as Britain's best.

Grant Powter, the company's owner, said: "I'm delighted to receive this accolade for something my family have been making for four generations.

"I just happened to be the lucky guy picking up the award."

Mr Powter's great grandfather opened the shop in Newmarket's Wellington Street in the 1880's.

He said very little had changed for the firm since its early days, except for the size and modernisation of the premises.

"Our method of hand-boning our pork remains the same", Mr Powter said.

The bangers are made with local Suffolk pork minced and mixed with rusk and a secret mixture of herbs and spices, then stuffed into natural casings.
