Lost tortoise 'looking for love'
A man whose 100-year-old tortoise has been missing for five weeks believes it may be out looking for "love".

Roy Kerridge said Thomas, who has lived with him since 1918 when he was brought back from World War One, has disappeared five times before - and was twice found with female tortoises.

Mr Kerridge, who lives in Stowmarket, is hoping Thomas is "on the pull" again and will be found quickly and returned home.

He said although Thomas had vanished before, he was concerned he may have ventured further afield in his latest hunt for female company.

"For most of the time he is very, very happy and very, very relaxed and just wanders around the garden," he said.

"We have an enclosure for him which we have made as secure as possible.

"But each year around August he gets restless and I think there must be romance in the air."

Mr Kerridge has put up posters in the area in the hope Thomas, who is just eight inches long, will be back at home in time for winter.
