Gunner dies after Iraq road crash

An RAF Regiment serviceman on operational duty in Iraq has died after he was injured in a road accident.

Gunner Duncan Geoffrey Pritchard died on 8 May after being flown back to the UK for hospital treatment.

The 22-year-old was serving with 16 Squadron which is based at RAF Honington in Suffolk.

The Ministry of Defence has issued a statement saying its thoughts and prayers are with the serviceman's family.

Many members of the Regiment returned to the UK on 1 May to be welcomed by their families at the air base near Bury St Edmunds.

It is the role of the Regiment to protect airfields with Rapier surface-to-air missiles.

They also formed part of the de-contamination team from the Joint Nuclear, Biological and Chemical Regiment.

More than 600 personnel were deployed from Honington, the headquarters of the Regiment.

Some members will be leaving the UK in the Summer for a posting to the Falkland Islands.
