Straw fire breaks out at farm

Arsonists are believed to have caused the fire
About £70,000 worth of straw is now being left to burn out on a farm in Suffolk after being set on fire.

It is thought arsonists are to blame for setting the 2,000 tonne stack alight at Elms Farm in Depden near Bury St.Edmunds.

The fire started on Tuesday night, a spokesman for the Suffolk Fire Service said.

He said crews are going to have to remain there for a couple of days to ensure a nearby barn does not catch fire.

Farmer Michael Read told the BBC that the straw was going to be used by an environmentally friendly power station at Ely in Cambridgeshire.
