A fire covering about a square mile of heathland at Cannock Chase was started deliberately, fire crews have said.

More than 70 firefighters tackled the blaze near Camp Road at Pye Green, which started on Friday afternoon.

Up to 14 fire engines attended and crews remained at the scene overnight with the last appliance leaving on Saturday afternoon, a spokesman said.

No-one was injured and the cause is being treated as arson, Staffordshire Fire and Rescue said.
