Man is killed when car hits tree

A man died and another has been left seriously injured when their car left a road and hit a tree in Staffordshire.

Ambulance crews were called to the A500 in Etruria, Stoke-on-Trent, shortly after 0300 GMT.

Both men were trapped in the vehicle and had to be cut free by firefighters. The killed man died at the scene, an ambulance service spokeswoman said.

The second man, who was in his 20s, suffered a serious chest injury and was taken to hospital for treatment.
