Some jobs at the former building society Britannia in Staffordshire could be moved to London as a result of the merger with the Co-op.

The organisation has not said exactly how many of the posts, which are in its treasury department at its Leek headquarters, would be affected.

Britannia said the move was needed to help it maintain a strong presence in the City.

Staff have been offered relocation packages or alternative jobs.

Britannia said the move would only affect a small percentage of the 2,000 staff at its Cheadle Road headquarters.

It added that it was keen to keep its offices in Leek.

The two organisations merged on 1 August after members gave the move the go-ahead.
