Residents moved during stand-off

Householders in a Staffordshire village had to leave their homes after a man in a distressed state began threatening to harm himself.

Emergency services were called to York Road, in Weston Coyney, shortly after midday on Monday after receiving calls about the situation.

Residents were allowed back home just after 0100 GMT on Tuesday.

Police said a man in his 60s was being detained and would be questioned later after receiving medical treatment.

A police spokesman said the householders were asked to move "as a precaution" and trained negotiators had been brought in to deal with the man.
