New city voting system approved

New voting arrangements for Stoke-on-Trent have been rubber-stamped by the government.

It means there will still be elections for a third of the councillors in 2010 and another full election in 2011 and full elections every four years.

The government announced plans to change the electoral process in the city in May as part of moves to fix its "broken political system".

Its unique system of a mayor and council manager was also removed.

The council is now run by a council leader and cabinet.
