Two women hurt during armed raid

Two women needed hospital treatment after an armed robbery at a bank in Staffordshire.

Two men carrying metal bars and axes entered a branch of Lloyds TSB in The Strand, Longton, at about 1400 BST, police said.

They made off with an undisclosed amount of cash in a grey Seat Leon, which was found abandoned soon after. It is thought to have been stolen.

Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

It is thought the women suffered only minor injuries.
