RSPCA supports race abandonment

Worcester Racecourse
The meeting on Wednesday was abandoned after one race

The RSPCA has offered its support to a racecourse after a meeting was abandoned because of a shortage of on-course water for horses.

Wednesday's meeting at Worcester was called off after one race, as the horses were being affected by the hot weather. One animal collapsed.

RSPCA equine consultant David Muir said to carry on "under those circumstances would have been foolhardy".

Mr Muir said that the horse which collapsed had "recovered well".
