Microlight pilot injured in crash

The pilot of a light aircraft has been airlifted to hospital with life-threatening injuries after it crashed in Staffordshire.

The machine, thought to be a microlight, crashed on Park Hall Golf Club, in Stoke-on-Trent.

The pilot, aged in his 50s and the sole occupant, was flown to the University Hospital of North Staffordshire with suspected lower-leg injuries.

The Civil Aviation Authority is investigating.

Emergency services were called to the scene at about 1315 BST.

Representatives from the Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB) have also been called to the scene which will remain sealed off overnight, Staffordshire Police said.

Witnesses who saw the aircraft are urged to contact Staffordshire Police.
