Bus tour after Tamworth promotion

An open-top bus tour has taken place to celebrate Tamworth's promotion to the top division of non-league football.

Tamworth, the champions of Blue Square North, will play in the Blue Square Premier next season. They were relegated from that division in 2007.

Sunday's tour began at their ground, The Lamb, and included a visit to the town hall.

The Staffordshire club said it was a chance for the whole town to say "thank you" to the players.

'Nationwide again'

General manager Russell Moore said: "Supporters came out - there were lots of Tamworth shirts and flags. They did us proud.

"With the clubs that are now in the league, the Lutons, the Mansfields and the Wrexhams, it'll bring a lot of people in to the town on a match day.

"I dare say that some of the local hotels will benefit from some of the clubs that are further away.

"The name Tamworth now will be nationwide again and the football club will be promoting not only the football club but the town."

Tamworth, who have enjoyed some FA Cup wins against Football League teams in recent years, finished five points clear of Gateshead this season.

Another Staffordshire side, Burton Albion, won the Blue Square Premier title and have been promoted to the Football League for the first time.
