Children seriously hurt in crash

Two children have been seriously injured in a multiple-car accident on a motorway in Staffordshire.

A boy, believed to be 11, suffered multiple injuries in the crash on the M6 northbound between junctions 15 and 16, the ambulance service said.

A girl of seven was airlifted to hospital with serious abdominal and back injuries after the incident about 1300 BST on Saturday, a spokesman said.

Four adults were also injured and were taken by ambulance to hospital.

Those hurt included two women in their 30s, one who suffered head and shoulder injuries and the other who suffered chest injuries, the West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman added.
