The proposed redevelopment would include houses and shops

An architect has been appointed to oversee the redevelopment of a factory near a Staffordshire town centre.
London-based McDowell + Benedetti have been chosen to design the 22-acre site in Pinfold Street, Uttoxeter, which is currently owned by JCB.
The construction firm is leaving the plant for a £40m factory in the town in 2009 and is trying to sell the site.
The proposed development would consist of 257 homes, offices and a 45,000 sq ft retail store.
An application for outline planning permission has been submitted to East Staffordshire Borough Council but no developer has been found.
'Long-term vision'
JCB chairman Sir Anthony Bamford said it was important that the redevelopment of the site left a legacy to Uttoxeter.
His family has strong links with the town, where his father Joseph Cyril Bamford founded JCB in a lock-up garage in 1945.
He said: "These are tough economic times but we have to plan for the future and this masterplan delivers a long-term vision for the development of a very important site in the heart of the town which I hope people will welcome."
Renato Benedetti, a partner in McDowell + Benedetti, said: "We are delighted to be selected and look forward to working closely with Sir Anthony and local stakeholders to secure an appropriate enduring legacy for Uttoxeter and the Bamford family."
