Man killed in toll motorway crash

A man has died and three other people were injured in a motorway pile-up in Staffordshire.

The crash happened on the southbound carriageway of the M6 toll road between T5 and T6 near Chasetown and Cannock, at about 1230 GMT.

Three cars and a van were involved in the smash which killed one of the drivers who died at the scene.

A family-of-three was also taken to hospital along with the van driver and the female driver of the third car.

Ambulance crews

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: "The driver of one car, a man, suffered serious multiple injuries and despite the best efforts of ambulance crews nothing could be done to save him."

A man believed to be in his 30s was taken to hospital with possible neck injuries, along with a woman, also believed to be in her 30s, and a boy, who were both treated for shock.

The van driver and the driver of the third car, a woman in her 20s, were also taken to Good Hope Hospital.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Central Motorway Police Group.
