Allotment holders face rent rise

Some people in Staffordshire are facing large increases in rent for allotments.

Rent will go up for some from about £30 a year to more than £100, but Cannock Chase District Council said the average rise for people will be £1.82 per week.

It added that it was no longer affordable for council tax payers to subsidise services used by a small proportion of the population.

The decision on allotments was made during last year's budget setting process for 2008-2009.
