A twin boy who fell into a garden pond in Staffordshire along with his brother has died.

Two-year-old George Bostock, who was pulled from a pond in the Tean area on Monday evening, died in hospital, Staffordshire Police confirmed.

His twin brother Harry was discharged from hospital on Wednesday.

Their parents, Berdine and James, said George would be remembered as "a strong, brave, loving son" who "effortlessly enriched" people's lives.

The boys were found in the pond in a neighbour's garden minutes after they went missing from their family home.

Both were given first aid by people at the scene.

'Huge personality'

Police said they was treating the matter as a tragic accident and a report would be prepared for the Staffordshire coroner.

George had been in a critical, but stable, condition at the University of North Staffordshire hospital since Monday's incident.

In a statement, the family, who also have a daughter, Ellie, said: "George was a loving and caring little boy with a huge personality.

"Everyone who met him instantly fell in love with both him and his infectious manner," they said.

"He would often be at the centre of our children's fun and games and he will be missed very much by all his family and friends.

"George will be forever remembered as a strong, brave, loving son and sibling who effortlessly enriched the lives of all the people he met."

They added that his favourite pastime was chasing around the family home either away from or after his twin brother, who is making an "incredible recovery".

A spokeswoman for Staffordshire Police said: "Our thoughts are with the family at this time."

She added that George died "within the last 24 hours" but was unable to say exactly when.

The boys' parents previously thanked friends and neighbours who helped search for the twins when they went missing.
