Money sought for chapel repairs

Bethesda Chapel, Hanley
The building has already been weather proofed

About £500,000 needs to be raised for a restoration project at a chapel in Stoke-on-Trent.

The money is needed to complete repairs at the Bethesda Chapel in Hanley, and to clean pews and replace railings at the front.

The first stage of the project saw the building weather proofed.

Steve Pilchard, from the Historic Chapels Trust, said the building could host concerts and exhibitions in the future.

He said: "It had a very active congregation here.

"We see the future of a very active building serving the needs of Stoke-on-Trent for all sorts of activities in here - concerts, exhibitions, talks, civil events.

"You name it. This could host it."
