Town to get part of £100m share

Centre of Stafford
An extra 30,000 square metres of shops could be needed in Stafford

Stafford is in line to benefit from part of a £100m government fund to help it cope with 10,300 new homes being built there in the next 20 years.

Borough council leaders wrote to the government earlier this year asking for financial help to provide the homes.

Up to 30,000 square metres of new shops and 40,000 of extra office space could also have to be accommodated.

The area will find out how much it will receive over the coming months and will go on providing new community services.

Council chiefs said it was "great news" and said the funding would be a "significant boost" to the economy.
