Police have said they are keeping an "open mind" about how a 13-year-old boy suffered severe petrol burns.

Jordan Lawrence, from Carmountside, Stoke-on-Trent, is in a critical condition after sustaining 40% burns while with other boys.

Jordan, who suffered injuries to his head, chest and legs, was found on the site of a former school near a path off Leek Road on Friday.

A number of people have come forward so far, Staffordshire Police said.

But they said they are still keen to hear from anyone else with information.

The boy had several hours of surgery at Birmingham Children's Hospital at the weekend.

Det Sgt Gary Evans, of Staffordshire Police, said: "At this stage we are investigating exactly what happened, and keeping an open mind as to how Jordan came to be burnt to such a shocking extent.

"We are liaising closely with his family, and have appointed specially-trained liaison officers to support them at this difficult time."
