Development planned for Moorlands

A £7m development is being planned for the Staffordshire Moorlands.

The owners of Churnet Works Ltd, off Macclesfield Road in Leek, want to sell the site and bring in a supermarket, more shops and houses.

Developers have not yet applied for planning permission as they are waiting for a council consultation.

Development spokesman Russell Foster said he had written to tenants currently on the site to advise them of the situation.

He said: "The Staffordshire Moorlands council are working up their vision for the whole town and they will publish a consultation document in September 2009 for everyone to have their say.

"They will draw their conclusions after that as to where we are going.

"Realistically we are looking at three to five years before anything can happen."
