A taxi driver has been arrested over the death of a 22-year-old woman who fell out of a moving vehicle.

Katie Louise Bennett suffered severe head injuries after falling from the taxi in Newchapel, Stoke-on-Trent, Staffs, in the early hours of Saturday.

Ms Bennett, from the Newchapel area, died in hospital on Monday.

She and and six friends took the taxi from Hanley to Newchapel High Street at 0200 BST. Staffordshire Police have appealed for witnesses to come forward.

A police spokesman said: "Several of the passengers had left the vehicle.

"However, one passenger remained in the vehicle, which then moved off.

"That passenger then fell from the vehicle whilst in motion and suffered severe head injuries as a result."
