A Bingo player won nearly £1m at her weekly game and then shared it with the other people in the room.

Margaret Ann Venables won £874,208 at Gala Bingo in Fenton, Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire.

The rules of the game meant she scooped 50% of the jackpot and the rest was shared among the other 396 players, who got £1,184 each.

Margaret Ann, 52, said she would share her winnings with her sister and felt like Christmas had come early.

The mum-of-four, who plays bingo every Wednesday, said she had been sitting in the seat her mother used to sit in before she died two months ago.

"I feel like my mum who supported me when she was alive has made sure I'll be ok without her," she said.

The game rules state that if "house" is called on number 5, players claim 50% of a rollover jackpot, while the remaining 50% is shared by all the players at the club.
