Bus stop 'wrong way' bench moved
A bench at a bus stop which was placed facing away from the road has been removed, council chiefs said.

When the bench was installed in August, Stoke-on-Trent City Council said it was placed in such a way to avoid elderly people falling into Leek Road.

However, the council later admitted it probably took health and safety "to the extreme".

A spokesman said on Tuesday it was going to be replaced with a "sleek, azure blue" new bus shelter.

The spokesman said: "Stoke-on-Trent City Council has decided that the original bench deserves a rest after its brief but spectacular stint in the limelight.

"It has been removed to a place of safety where it will see out its days in peace."
