A woman is to commentate on BBC TV's flagship football programme Match of the Day for the first time in its 43-year history.

Jacqui Oatley, 32, will cover Saturday's Premiership game between Fulham and Blackburn.

She played at an amateur level but had to give up after a serious knee injury.

Oatley, from London, and originally from Codsall, Staffordshire, spent four years working in intellectual property before changing careers.

She eventually secured a job on BBC national radio with Five Live.

Oatley, whose previous work includes reporting for BBC Radio Leeds and BBC WM in the West Midlands, did a postgraduate course before going into broadcasting.
