A mosaic charting the history of the pottery industry is being created for a Stoke-on-Trent museum.
The mosaic is due to be finished next year
It is being made up of the stamps on items which name the potters who crafted the clay.
Thousands of fragments of pottery will be needed and people are being asked to donate them.
The mosaic, which is called Made in England and should be finished by the spring, is being designed for the Potteries Museum and Art Gallery.
Money from the Heritage Lottery Fund has been provided for the venture.
Artist Emma Biggs said: "We want to be able to show as many different people.. and as broad a range of manufacturers as possible."
There have been more than 1,500 potteries in Stoke-on-Trent over the centuries.
