Probe into suspected arson attack

Police are investigating a suspected arson attack on a bungalow.

The semi-detached home in the Longton area of Stoke-on-Trent was empty at the time of the fire in the early hours of Friday, fire crews said.

Elderly neighbours were woken by loud banging noises and discovered their room was filled with smoke. They were rescued by fire officers.

An investigation is now under way but officials say they believe it was started deliberately.
