A 12-year-old has been charged with manslaughter after a boy died when he was shot with an airgun.

Mitchel Picken, also aged 12, was shot in the eye with a pellet in Stockton Brook in Stoke-on-Trent on 17 August. He died two days later.

The charged boy has been released on bail and is due at North Staffordshire Youth Court on 27 September.

A 45-year-old man who was quizzed about supplying an airgun to a youth has been released on bail until 30 September.

Another boy who was arrested was released without charge last month.

Mitchel, from Baddeley Green Lane in Baddeley Green, was a pupil at Holden Lane High School in Sneyd Green, a Port Vale fan and a keen sports player.

His family have been informed of the development, Staffordshire Police said.
