Mr Stevenson served the city as councillor, MP and MEP
A former MP who stood down at the last general election has been made an honorary freeman of Stoke-on-Trent.

George Stevenson is a previous city councillor, county councillor, trade union official and bus driver.

He was given the honour by the city council on Thursday afternoon at a ceremony held at the council chambers.

He was MP for Stoke-on-Trent South from 1992 to 2005 and he had served as an MEP. He was seen as a left-wing rebel in Parliament.
