Playgroup facing huge rent rise
A playgroup could be forced out of its premises in Stoke-on-Trent because of a proposed massive rise in rent.

The Bucknall playgroup has been told the £5 paid for each session at the pupil referral school in Willeton Street, Bucknall, will go up to £45.

The increase will take place from September but the playgroup said it cannot afford it.

Stoke-on-Trent City Council said the rise was in line with that charged by other schools in the city.

Faced eviction

The council added that the playgroup's current £5 cost did not cover overheads such as lighting and cleaning.

Three years ago the playgroup faced eviction when the community centre was turned into a school for excluded children.

After a successful campaign, they were allowed to move into another room in the building.

The Pensioners' Group, which currently uses the building for free, has been told it will have to pay £10.
